Town of Guilderland
Recreation Programming
COVID-19 Participant Guidance

Goal:
The purpose of our summer programming is to offer the Town of Guilderland residents and its youth the safest recreational environment as possible.

Objective:
To provide guidance and procedures to employees of the Town of Guilderland Parks and Recreation Department, and community members that will allow us to safely resume all functions of the Parks and Recreation Department, and reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Action Plan:

The following procedures will be administered:

  • Parents/Guardians:
    • Pre-screen your child at home - temperature taking - to establish a baseline - eliminate surprise and potential exposure.
    • If your child shows any signs or symptoms please call the camp office and speak with a member of the nursing staff.
    • At the times of drop-off and pick-up, we ask that maintain a 6ft distance and remain in your vehicle unless necessary - and wear a mask if you must exit the vehicle.

  • Campers:
    • If a camper feels sick, keep them home.
    • At each designated drop off location, please arrive with your mask on and the camper should remain in the vehicle until a camper daily intake screening evaluation is conducted.
    • The camper will have their temperature taken by one of the medical personnel and noted on the intake screening form.
    • If a camper has a measured temperature of 100.4 degrees F or greater, the camper will be asked to remain in the vehicle for further evaluation.
    • After further evaluation - for precautionary measures the camper may be asked not to attend camp for the day and/or the remainder of the session.
    • The Camp Director and the Recreation Administration will be advised.
    • If needed, the Guilderland EMS Department will be contacted for further direction.

  • Tawasentha Half Day Camp Staff:
    • If an employee feels sick - symptoms such as flu-like  they are not to report to work.
    • They are to contact the Camp Director directly via phone call or text message and their group leader.
    • When reporting to work - all staff must be wearing a mask and enter the pavilion through the space adjacent to the grill.
    • Immediately upon arrival - the staff member is to have their temperature taken by one of the medical personnel and noted on their daily intake screening form.
    • If an employee has a measured temperature of 100.4 degrees F or greater, maintain a 6 ft distance from other staff members and/or campers and parents/guardians- return to their vehicle for further evaluation- signs of additional symptoms, obtain a list of camp staff they had contact with, if any.
    • After further evaluation - for precautionary measures the staff member may be directed to not report to work.
    • The Camp Director and the Recreation Administration will be advised.
    • If needed, the Guilderland EMS Department will be contacted for further direction.

  • Sports and Enrichment Instructors:
    • Instructors will be required to self screen themselves for any COVID-19 related symptoms prior to leaving for camp.  If they have any symptoms they will remain home and notify the Parks & Recreation Office.
    • Camps will be adjusted to follow guidelines as laid out by the Town and State - this includes camp numbers, materials used, camp layout and time frame held.
    • Programs may be adjusted after registration opens to follow future regulations and guidance for the Town EMS Department.
    • A pre-screening form will be required of each participant before they enter the program.  This form will be filled out at home each day by the parent/guardian and will be handed in to the instructor of the program.  At the end of each day the form will go home with the student to be filled out the next day.  This form will be collected at the end of the program for the Parks & Recreation Office records.
    • If the participant exhibits any symptoms of the virus they should not be brought to camp.   Any participant that exhibits signs or symptoms of the virus while at the program will  be required to be transported home by their parent/guardian.
    • The Town will supply each camp location with cleaning supplies to disinfect the area and materials prior to the camp starting and after the camp has finished each day.
    • Any additional materials will be provided by the instructor and may include a materials fee to be paid on the first day of the program.
    • Camp size will be limited to follow social distancing recommendations and gathering size limits.
    • Instructors will  be required to wear face masks during their program.
    • Participants will also be required to wear a face mask while at the program.
    • Sports programs that involve physical activity and can maintain social distancing will allow participants to remove their masks as long as the six foot distance can be maintained.
    • Sports programs will have small groups that will rotate through stations to abide by gathering size limitations and maintain social distancing.
