Campers will participate in alternative approaches to creating Art. Through exploration of alternative materials, methods and results campers will leave camp having explored many new ways to create.  Exploration into unconventional art making will allow campers the freedom to create new and exciting pieces of art.

Camp Information
  • Students will explore through the following activities
  • Custom created sketchbook - campers explore book binding, building book covers and choosing custom paper to fill the sketchbook
  • Collage Paper & Pop-out books - campers create unique one of a kind collage paper that will be transformed into an alternative foldable pop-out book
  • Drawing with alternative methods and materials - exploring the use of nontraditional materials including drawing with ink and string, drawing with found objects, drawing while blindfolded, drawing with all arms and legs
  • Zine Making - campers learn the easy and fun way to create their own mini magazines on just a simple piece of copy paper but can be reproduced easily on the photocopier
  • Manipulated/Shared Art - campers create “Exquisite Corpse” a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled.
  • Mix Material Experiment - campers create a mixed material image combining sewing, printing and painting and drawing. Building layers to create a one of a kind piece.
  • Please bring a $25 materials fee to be collected by the instructor on the first class.

Instructor Information
Shannon O'Mahony has a BFA in Photography and a Masters in Art Education. She has been a art teacher in the Guilderland Central School District for 16 years.
